The Wter-Sprinkling Festival is a tradition unique to the Dai ethnic minority who live near China' southern border area.
In mid-April every year, they get together, all carryng water from ponds, streams and rivers in jars and hasins.
Singing and laughing, they splash water on one another. In this way they wish for a happy, untroubled life.
This has beed a Dai custom for coutless generations.
Although nobody is sure exactly when their ancestors started the festival, the legend about its origin is known to all.
